Job: Motion Graphics Designer
When Clara said she needed someone to help her do some lightly animated intros, outros, and ads for the video version of her podcast, I jumped at the chance to do some video editing and stretch my After Effects muscles. The brief was to create three 40 second animations to accompany audio that Clara had written and recorded. She provided me with her brand assets (commissioned by Victor Media Group) and some guidance on what she imagined the ads being.
I started with some storyboards so that I could communicate the gist of what I had in mind without sinking excessive time into rendering a full animation.
Once these were approved, I set off to animate. I’m very pleased with how they turned out - check out the finished products! You can catch Clara’s show anywhere you get your podcasts!
To create the logo animation, I brought the logo into Illustrator and isolated each row of three pixels. Then, I imported those layers into After Effects and animated each one to blink in and out in time. I made the logo animation it’s own composition so that I could easily drop it into the other videos.
Figuring out how to get these items to move smoothly on a curve and in time with each other was a fun challenge! I’m very happy with how it looks.
