Gather Round Games
Job: Co-Founder, Game Designer, Producer, Graphic Designer & Writer
Co-Founder: Liz Roche
Gather Round Games is my tabletop design & publishing company. Coming off of our first project, Someone Has Died, which we view as an entry-level gateway to roleplaying games, we knew we wanted our brand identity to be accessible, welcoming, and oriented around communal play.
As we transitioned into establishing both online marketing assets as well as our physical convention presence, we wanted to do something that would help us stand our from our peers. Ultimately we landed on coupling our logo with a very bold coral pink background, which contrasts really effectively with our pastel yellow logomark. Not only is the color super bright and eye-catching, but considering that the tabletop game industry is still prominently male-dominated industry, PINK generally isn’t a color you see on the convention floor often. So we ran with it - it’s everywhere! I also added a faint diamond pattern to the background to add some texture to our larger assets.

In 2019, we had a booth at GenCon for the first time, which can be hard to come by, so we expanded our brand to include some friends’ companies and products.
We actually loved sharing our platform with our friends and ended up establishing a Gather Round Games + Friends online storefront!

Liz & I wanted to make pins for the longest time and we finally pulled the trigger for our first return to conventions in Winter of 2022.

Just for fun, here are some other ideas we explored for the company logo. It’s interesting to look back and see what parts made it to the final iteration.
I remember being really charmed by this pink fluffy design - definitely too illegible for a company logomark though!
Better, but still not legible enough
Gather ‘round under the umbrella! Nailed the color scheme though!
I think the idea here was to evoke a sense of everyone gathering around a pizza box and grabbing a slice. A little too TMNT for us though
